PreK Program

Although it may seem like fun and games to preschoolers, the curriculum we follow is packed with educational elements. Games abound that teach pre-reading skills like phonemic awareness and letter and sound recognition; basic math concepts; and hands-on science exploration.

Mirroring the state curriculum standards, the pre-kindergarteners focus on reading, early writing, and basic math. Foreign language, science, social studies, art, music and physical education round out the learning. One field trip per month.

Pre-Kindergarten program is funded by Los Angeles Universal Preschool www.laup.net

ADMISSION POLICIES FOR PRE-K PROGRAM

Families must meet LAUP guidelines.  Eligible children are determined by age.  TEREMOK will also conduct a developmental profile on participating children, and maintain a child's portfolio.  The purpose of the developmental profile is to observe your child's development and provide support for your child's growth.  The child's portfolio will be used to provide child's work and progress while participating in the LAUP program.

Families are required to provide proper documentation upon enrollment according to the Family Child Care Provider and in regulations of California State Licensing requirements.

TEREMOK will require documentations from families such as:

- Child's Immunization records and immunizations are up to date

- An IEP or doctor's certification if your child has a special need

- Birth Certificate

- Family's proof of address

- 4 people who we can contact in an emergency (names, addresses and current phone numbers)

- And other forms required by licensing and provider

ELIGIBILITY

TEREMOK is in collaboration with LAUP and the Child Care Resource Center , the purpose of the program is to provide 3.5 hours / 5 days a week of curriculum for children whom are four years old to promote their social-emotional, physical and cognitive development.  This program is funded by First Five L.A.; the program will also provide technical assistance for providers and families that will be participating in the LAUP program under district five.

Families participating in the LAUP program do not have an income requirement.  Families are eligible if a child is born by December 2 or 4 years old.  Families will have to pay an investment fee that is determined by city and zip code according to LAUP, if a family is unable to pay the investment fee, families may appeal the fee process through LAUP.

Families also must choose care with a family child care provider who meets the requirements according to LAUP program within district five.

Parent Investment Fee

Many parents will be asked to pay a one-time Investment Fee when they enroll their children in LAUP-funded half-day preschool. This fee will defray some of the costs of the LAUP program and help make it sustainable for years and 4-year-olds! to come.

The Parent Investment Fee for each LAUP preschool is based on the median family income in that preschool's neighborhood. It is a progressive sliding scale that reflects the ability to pay of an average family in that neighborhood.

LAUP understands, though, that not all families are average, and does not want the Investment Fee to constitute a barrier to participation. Families with low incomes or special circumstances can appeal directly to LAUP to have the Investment Fee waived or reduced. In addition, the Investment Fee is automatically waived for many families, including:

  • Parents of children receiving child care subsidies from public funds;
  • Parents of children with a current Individualized Education Plan (IEP);
  • Foster parents;
  • Parents with children under the supervision of the Department of Children and Family Services; and
  • Teen parents involved in the foster and juvenile probation systems.

Collecting the Investment Fee remains the responsibility of each individual preschool. Information about Investment Fees for specific preschools can be found at www.laup.net or by calling the preschool directly.
